As I probably mentioned in a previous blog entry (I don't remember so clearly these days!), I have recently been working on a Cephalod Soldier which I bought from Black Hat Miniatures a little while ago. He is part of their 18mm Martian Empires range, which is Victorian Science Fiction - but I figured that weird aliens with beaks and enlarged brains would be good for pretty much any kind of sci-fi, or even pulp gaming, that I cared to introduce them into.
Actually, I've got a whole pile of these little alien monstrosities that are sitting here - some still in packets, some assembled and primed and some half painted. I was feeling a little guilty about them not being finished, so I thought I'd make at least a little bit of an effot and finish at least one of the little freaks - well, we don't want to go overboard and encourage these little blighters, now, do we?
This is one of the Heatray Cephalods, and he was a breeze to assemble and had no discernable cast lines, which is always a great thing! I struggled a little with the painting - I think partly because I was trying to paint ten of those intimidating brains all at once, which rather put me off. But once I got the brain finished on this one individual then the rest of him was quite a joy to paint in the pulp style I had chosen.
I did have a little bit of a blank when it came to what colour I should paint his face, but I decided to go with the green in an homage to the release by Specialist Games of the Gorkamorka rules free for download (at the bottom of the page HERE, in case you missed it!). No real connection here - apart from the randomness of my wargaming brain. I am really pleased with the green face, though! :D
Right, here he is. You comments and feedback are welcome and appreciated, as always! :D
