After soliciting some feedback on the Custom Hobby Forum and the Forum of Doom the first time I finished my HF Tiriel as a Dark Elf, I have finally, in the last week or so, got back to her to make (most) of the improvements suggested.

The first thing I modified was to add more definition to her armour by using a very, very think wash of black applied between the plates of her armour, over the chainmail and around the soles of her feet. This has certainly stopped her feet from just blending into the grey base, and given me the confidence to keep the slate tiles that I was quite pleased with.

Also I was intending to try and highlight the armour further, but with the extra contrast provided by the black wash, I found that this was not at all necessary.

I added some gloss varnish over her red eyes and a small scar across her right eye. For this scar, I used just the base colour I used for her flesh (Tamiya XF-75 IJN Grey[Kure Arsenal], if you're really interested!).

Finally, of course, perhaps the biggest difference was highlighting her hair in several layers of very, very, very thinned white. I used both judicious amounts of water and a small amount of W&N Acrylic Flow Improver to make the thin paint - but applied in several thin coats, its dries really fast and gives a layering effect that I'm really pleased with!

One note I should make about W&N Acrylic Flow Improver is that even though it comes in a 75ml bottle, I've found I only need microscopic amounts of the stuff. I usually blend and thin my paints on an old blister pack, and when adding this flow improver, I usually just pick up the smallest amount I can with my (clean!) 4/0 detail brush, then wipe it off on the edge of the bottle before adding it in. You know when you've added too much, as your paint froths up with bubbles - which can be burst and the paint used just the same - but its annoying to have to do so!

Anyway, back to the main point of this post, a new pretty painted lady is available for viewing in my RPG folder. Or, if you continue to read down this post, she is reproduced here.

The older version of her is still available in my RPG folder.
