Well, I picked this chaps up far too long ago, but I've finally got around to painting them.? I've left them as stand-alone status, so that I can use them more flexibly as wargames terrain.
Really simple to paint, but the fantastic detail on these chaps just made them a dream to paint!!? Great work, Ian ;)
Your comments and feedback are most welcome.

These came out great! Are those vines part of the cast?
How did you paint them; feel like giving a quick description on how to get that result?

You see, that is how I usually start when I buy things and then it takes me ages to paint them ...? :laugh:

By vines, do you mean the green bits? If so, then no.
Painting Foo Dogs the Keeper Way: 101 :)
1) I primed them with acrylic grey primer (Halfords, to be specific);
2) Washed heavily with thinned and flow enhanced Citadel Brown Ink then left to thoroughly dry!;
3) Drybrushed quite heavily with:
a) Tamyia Sky Grey (XF-19);
b) 2:1 mix of Tamiya Sky Grey and Citadel Skull White.
4) Dappled/Drybrushed the broken parts with thinned GW Bestial Brown;
5) Glued on green railway flock, to tase (Hornby R8038 Moor Heather Scatter, in this case).
Dog's a Good 'Un, to paraphrase Mr Foster at Heresy :D

Is it a genestealer? ;)

Who would make a statue of a genestealer? (I've painted all of the old style ones anyway!)
=a sucessful genestealer cult? But no one would be there to look at it since the tyranids would have eaten everyone.
If I had a nice Gorgon model I'd be painting petrified adventurers.
No, not a genestealer -you'll kick yourself when you realise!

A plastic Space Crusade marine?

Hmm -not sure I've enough of those spare. A veteran marine might make a nice statue, but no, it's not any form of marine

Just a quick attempt

According to the Heroquest Fluff they were supposed to be magically animated statues, so an ideal subject for this.
My colours -MP Dark Grey, then GW Brown Ink, drybrush Tamiya Sky Grey, drybrush and highlight with Valejo Pale Greyblue then MP Black Ink.
Added what I intended to be a bit of moss effect with MP Sea Green and GW Bestial Brown. Eyes were done with GW Scorched Brown and Revel Ferrai Red.
Really ought to put this up in a Tutorial (hint!)

Looks great phil :) Doing statues like this is pretty easy, isn't it? :D

Are they? I've got one I painted sat in front of me on top of my work monitor, and it looks for all the world like a [s]Balrog[/s] [s]Bloodthirster[/s] Gargoyle ;)

What the fluff fails to mention is that they are statues of Bloodthirsters!
Luckly I had some Valejo Greyblue which I had brought for shadowing white, so I didn't even have to mix!
