It is getting colder and colder week by week. We got a bit of relief this week as the air temperatures are in the 30's, but soon it will be simply too cold for me to prime miniatures for painting.
I guess I have about a week to get things ready for the season... I assume it will be too cold to prime anything from Dec 1 to April 1.
So, with that time constraint in mind, what would you focus on?
Yeah, I could brush prime, but I suck at that. I end up getting puddles and bubbles on the miniatures.
21st and Prime
Assuming you're not talking about Deion Sanders, because I know you're not a sports fan ... What is in your pile, unprimed, right now Cheddar?
Personally I'd be priming everything in sight ... oh, wait, I've already done that!
everything!
Priming is easy. What is the time consuming bit is filing beforehand to get rid of mould lines. In your situation I'd be priming everything that you can.
Personally I quite like brush priming when there is just one or two figures. Trick is to have a paint put aside for the purpose of the correct consistency. MP black or white primer is a good start, or there is plenty of room for more water in a tamiya pot.

mould lines
I quite often find I don't find all of the mould lines until after I've primed a mini - as the white or black show up lines better than bare metal. Then I remove the rest of the mould lines I've missed and fix up the primer with a brush - which isn't nearly as bad as priming a whole model and it can be done in the intense cold of the high arctic, where Cheddar lives!
Choices choices
So --
I have a pretty good pile of unpainted stuff that I can break down into general categories:
Warhammer Fantasy Orc army
Warhammer Fantasy and 40K Chaos
Mordheim Warbands
Large Monsters
Zombies and other undead
Zombie hunters and other modern characters
Wild West
Pirates
Barbarians
Fantasy heroes and monsters
Villagers, fantasy and modern
Here's the stash
Here's a picture I just took of my gaming stuff storage closet:
Mini Stash
As for brushing on primer, I'll reserve that for the one-offs that I absolutely have to paint.
What is MP Black or White primer? I wonder if that's something I can get here.
Selection
If you're anything like me (and I hope you aren't) then I would prime some of each:
* A couple of Mordheim Warbands;
* Some Z-Hunters;
* Some Chaos;
* Some monsters;
This would probably be my list - then as my fickle mood changed, I'd have something I could move onto. However, I've found a good way to stay on track is to write down a plan - I think I mentioned this in reply to one of Medved's emails of CHF - which increases my chances of sticking with a project through to the end!
Oh, and I'll try and take a number of photos of my own Lead Pile of Shame before Christmas.
law of nature
It is a law of nature that some mould lines only become visible once the paint goes on -or when the final ink wash goes on sometimes!
Of that selection I'd go for zombies, pirates, mordheim etc. Any group that will require varied paint jobs for different individuals -a bit of variety never hurts on the long winter nights.
MP is Miniature Paints (mixed by a neighbour of caerberan I think). Their excellent range includes a free flowing black or white primer paint. Well worth investing in a pot of each if you can get them. The White is also ideal consistency for painting in eyes
