Some new photos up! This is a fairly diverse selection spread over several albums so I suggest you use the link below to find them

Some novel stuff this time. Due to the recent discussion on the Forum of Doom on how to do white properly I pulled my marine medics down off the shelf and recontinued their paint job. Now the only advice that seems to be common on how to do white armour is to start with any colour but white, and my marines had already been painted white. That said, I was quite happy with the shading I was getting with Valejo Bluegrey and Pale Blue. Then I inked them and the ink all dried wrong and mucked them up! Sort of gave up then, corrected the worse of the damage and decided to move on to other things. You can see the Marine medics here.

Another experiment was I made an attempt to paint an Old style Genestealer. I've always had a sort of colour blindness with these guys. I can see what paints not to use, but the right ones to use have always escaped me. I think I've actually go the right combination first time, and am very happy with the result.
And I've actually painted some 54mm (1/32nd) figures too. These are cowboy figures I owned as a child (not the actual models, I had to find duplicates via ebay). The Britains figures were painted at a very basic level, and covered in mold lines and marks, so I've repainted them. The Airfix cowboy was unpainted. A little side branch of this project was trying to find a good combination of paints to create a passable mexican skin tone.
See what you think...

Go after those memories!
I'm with you, there are treasured things from my past that I just have to have, and it is amazing what you can find on ebay!
Great job on these repaints, there's a lot of detail there for toys. Did you have to use any special techniques?
I think the mexican skin is indeed passable.
Tech note -- did you use the "add gallery2 images" link at the bottom of the text box when adding these thumbnails, or did you do it the hard way?
Painting old toys
These guys were pretty much painted with standard techniques. You can probably see that drybrushing was used on several places. The only slightly unusual thing I did was used my "Skeleton Ink Mix" on the mexican's buckskins. This was partially because I didn't want his clothing to look too much like the other figures. Since I recently had an inking disaster with the medics I added a flake of soap to the black ink stage. I was expecting the unevenness of the finish on Big Earl to cause problems, but nothing of the kind occured. Since these figures I bigger than I usually paint I found myself paying far more attention of shading and highlights. Very few large areas are painted a single colour. The mexican's hat used three shades of red, for example.
They were not without their problems. The Airfix figure is of very soft plastic so it was very difficult to file off mold-lines and fiddly to cut them. The gun barrel was very thin and easily bent, but undercoating with black enamel paint helped here.
The Britain's figures were easier but come with lots of mold-lines and marks so lots of filing was needed, and some spots I just couldn't reach.
-in answer to the other question -did it the hard way! So that is what that link is for!
